A long time ago, in an Oval Office far, far away.....

For those of our younger viewers.........
(there are some compilations on You Tube of this incident, but I prefer this, with just the r/t. fyi "Fox" and "Fox 1"  denotes an air to air missile launch. `Splash` denotes a hit. My ex Harrier pilot chum tells me the growling buzzing sound at the end, is that of a Sidewinder missiles IR seeker telling the crew it's locking on to its target).

And what did Britain do when PC Fletcher was shot dead in the street? Fuck all. What did Britain do to the Lockebie bomber? Let him go. What did Britain do in order to pave the way for some grubby oil contracts? Sold its soul.

We are a disgrace of a nation.

Blue: And the free Semtex, small arms, heavy mg's and training for the IRA. My views on Gaddaffi haven't changed in 40 years. All I can say is that it was great to see an American citizen talking to a British journalist, thanking his lucky stars to see the Union Jack and White Ensign flying from HMS Cumberland as she slipped into Benghazi harbour. `Tis but a small thing, but it's ours....

So we still have some boats, good. What the people in charge seem to have forgotten is that if other people know that we have it in us to use the boats and the tanks and the men and women, we might actually have a chance of standing up for our principles. Instead we seem to act like the drunk slag who will pick up a boyfriend so as to avoid the taxi fare home.

TonyF: Cheers for the technical input. Those Sparrows didn't seem to connect did they?

Blue: Nice analogy! Talk quietly but carry a big stick seems to have become `talk bollocks and carry a trade agreement`

The thing is, we have a national habit of starting off the back foot. I think we have a naive belief that there is good in everyone, and that they would behave like we would like to think we do, if only we gave them a chance. See Hitler for the results of that stupidity. And yet we still see the best in people.....

TonyF: True dat. I was delighted to see the Hercs doing what they do best but I've no doubt they had a logistical headache of mammoth proportions to make it look so slick. No mention of the Rock Ape team that doubtless went with them, with the press naturally doing the headline grabbing copy on the Regiment from Hereford. And how very quiet the Oval Office seems at the moment?
