A friend e-mailed me these recently. The USS New York, with tons of recycled steel from the World Trade Centre used to make her bow section.
That's the spirit of America I know and respect.
There is something reassuringly macho about war ships, very muscularly shaped things. And I also love the Americans' defiance in the face of that disaster. Recycling the steel to form part of their defence is very clever.
What a great looking ship too. It looks like a cruiseliner in a weird way... and it looks like it belongs in a Thunderbirds episode you just posted about
When wound up and sent off in the right direction, our US cousins can do great things. Once upon a time, Britain, although small in stature, used to have a `Rolls Royce` diplomacy on the world stage. These days I don't think we could get £2k scrappage allowance for it against a new Mini.

We have sold our pride, principles and reputation for a few oil contracts and a bit of realpolitik.
Now that is REAL irony.
