Keep it simple, stoopid

Today is my birthday. I started it late last night when I rode home from work on my beloved Harley Davidson (having had lunch provided by a gracious  Lord of the Realm) to find a bottle of Jim Beam waiting for me on the table, courtesy of the sexydelicious Mrs Hogday. That's the way I like to warm up for a birthday. This morning I'm having mushrooms on toast watching a DVD of John Fogerty live the The Royal Albrt Hall. Later we scoot off into the wilds of Northumbria and will hear some live Irish Folk music near "Hogwarts"  tonight. Deep joy. Every day should be like this.

Happy birthday Mr H!

You do pretty well for a 21 year-old.

Very sweet Hog and enjoy. The first Aussie rugby league coach I encountered (as a university amateur)was once asked whether training would follow keep it simple stoopid rules. "That's for New Zealanders", he replied, "You guys will need a whole shearing-shed load of practice to get that stupid". He left us to coach the much fancied Sheffield when we couldn't understand his insistence on orange juice at half-time. We did a schooner of sherry. We followed the simpler rules of the 1970 GB touring squad and held of tactical meetings in the pub. We were undefeated for two seasons. You just can't teach the right kind of stupidity. His teams lost all relish for playing through training so much. Capello should take note!

Blue: Thanks, OLD chum! I was such a dipstick at 21 (I got married! Can't believe how stoopid I was to do such a thing). Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

JuliaM: Thanks for the smile ;)

ACO: Totally agree about the joy of playing the game. If there's no joy, what's the fucking point?

Conan: Never heard of Old Jock. I was only 45 miles from the Border yesterday but sadly we didn't have the time to keep on a zero degree heading. Perhaps when the midgies come out???

PG: If you can't start a birthday with a dab of Jimmy Beam on your breath after a ride in the night astride a thumping Hog, what kind of crazy, sad animal are you?? ;-/

Stressedout: Cheers.

TonyF: 3 mud-movers blatted over Alnwick yesterday morning, rattling the windows of the B&B. By their heading, I'd say they were on their finals into Otterburn. I thought you'd like to hear that.

I'd have bailed out over the Percy Arms myself - spent some illicit time in there on exercise once, before some Boat Squad goons got me doing face down abseiling. Back then there was the Otterburn Towers too, with mad owners and a snug bar.

ACO: Ah the mighty Percy Clan. I look out over an old De Percy Castle every day. They knew which side to bat for did those Norman types.

Must have been ours, the Spams cant even spell Otterburn...

I think Harry Hotspur was a Percy and if he had been able to keep his powder dry, the country might have been much more Welsh. The thought always turns me to drink as I pass through the borders to the homeland.
