Stories and anecdotes from part of my life in 2 British police forces, years in saddles of motorcycles - and other places I've blundered into ©
I like that guy!
Well said! Funny we have the exact some problems over here. One the police classes I had to take a few years ago we were told:"In about the next 10 years over 50% of the population in California will NOT be paying anything in taxes, but will be taking up resources. They will be getting welfare and free stuff and using emergency services as they shoot each other etc."I can't wait.
As the looting and violence spreading into some of the nicer, trendier parts of London, I actually felt the lurch of a few hundred thousand Guardian readers shifting violently towards the right and the realisation that disliking foreign nationals coming into your country and treating it like shit does not, infact, make you a racist. Don't want to be deported? Don't act like a cunt. It's not all that much to ask.
Spark`: I'll be asking my MP and MEP to ensure your penultimate sentece is incorporated into the immigration requirements. I have asked that any of our `home grown` or already adopted citizens be given the same simple option.
In fact, we could do an export offer: Take yours back and have two of ours free....
TonyF - I've heard a great deal of these terrible foreign types, coming over here, spitefully taking our jobs that our unemployed won't get out of bed for. Having worked on farms with a few eastern europeans, when I was younger and handsomer than I am now, as far as I'm concerned, each of them was worth ten of our native-born, feckless, dole-monkeys. I believe we should have a one-in-one-out policy, whereby for every one we let in, we should deport one of our work-ethically challenged. Anywhere, really, I'm pretty wishy-washy liberal, like that.
Spark`/TonyF: You've pretty much sums up how I used to play the game when I was a plod. Ie;Don't act like a prick and we'll get on just fine - Fail to do so and I will `inconvenience` the shit out of you at every opportunity (some of which I will enjoy creating), after all, that's what I'm paid to do. You never know, you may even get to like me, but I don't care if you don't.
PS: And just like Spark`, I recently worked with a delightful Polish family who knew the meaning of a hard days graft. I say to all those with a similar outlook, "Dzien dobry, `come one, come all".
Strangely more or less my own view, if I'd be a bit more liberal and more concerned with the impact of immigration. Whilst he's chomping at the bit, much of it is true except pointing it out won't help. The useless presumably need ehlp in not being useless. Where would Rooney be if not for all the help, training, school teams and investment in him? Given schooling fails these people or they fail it, I doubt moral assertion will help. Right diagnosis but wrong cure. We need factories and even pits back.Right on the plight of our cops - yet we don't want a police state or licence for angry bullies in uniform. Be nice to see tougher policing, but he's naive on economics. The rich only invest to make money, not in policing. As tame on this latter as some of the liberals outside Dale Farm who live as far away as possible from 'tinkering'. Hot air rises from right and left. Pity he leaves it to a moral response from the dregs he accurately describes - unlikely to work one would think.
ACO: If only we had an engineering industry. All my thug pals at school ended up as fitter-turners for British Leyland, spot welders at Fords Halewood and the really clever ones went to build aircraft at Preston.
My point entirely Hog = one week nicked after riots on our miserable bus station, the next year 'tamed' by industrial work - a surer sentence than any magistrate could dish out, except perhaps me teaching them strategic management! That should be banned under a Hague convention!
Sorry, I did mean their scrotes, not the good ones.
TonyF: I know what you meant. Don't beat yourself up over it. Oh shit, I'm now sounding like a bloody Guardian reader as well......
